From the RectorDear Parishioners and Friends, At yesterday's weekday service, we remembered Phoebe, an early deacon in the Church at Cenchreae near Corinth in Greece. She is mentioned only briefly, but the fact that St. Paul commends her to the Church in Rome suggests that she may have been a messenger whom Paul trusted. There may have been more to her mission, as St. Paul instructs the Romans to help her in whatever she needs. It is easy to think that St. Paul did it all by himself, or with help from other prominent individuals such as St. Luke, but Phoebe is just one of surely many women and men working in the background to spread the light of the Gospel in the early days of the Church. Faithful yet quiet work like hers has gone on throughout the centuries, and continues today. Much good Gospel work is done here every day, often unnoticed. I invite you to join us this Sunday after the service in Bentley Hall as we welcome Jim Murphy who will speak to us about planned giving. Jim is an expert in his field, and we are lucky to have him. In the spirit of Phoebe, consider faithfully how your legacy will enable the Gospel light to continue to radiate from this place for a very long time to come. Blessings,
