I have some exciting news to share from the pages of today's London Gazette:

ORDER OF ST JOHN

The KING has been graciously pleased to sanction the following Promotions in, and Admissions to, the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem with effect from 4 April 2024 the date of His Majesty’s sign-manual.

From the Order's website: "Today the Order of St John is an international family of charities whose mission is to lead globally in first aid and medical responses to community healthcare needs. The Order accomplishes its mission with the support of its 11 Priories and over 30 associations, 23,500 Members worldwide and 200,000 dedicated volunteers operating in more than 30 countries. The Order encompasses the foundations of St. John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group (SJEHG) and St John Ambulance."

"The mission of The Priory in the United States of America of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem is to support the sick and the poor in fellowship as an order of chivalry founded on Christian principles that operates regardless of race, gender, class or religion. We support St. John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group and, through our volunteer corps, we support the social and healthcare needs of U.S. communities."

The Order has its roots in the eleventh century, when a hospital was established in Jerusalem for medieval pilgrims. It was suppressed in England during the reign of Henry VIII and remained dormant there for three centuries until it was revived by Queen Victoria in 1888. I am deeply honored to have been appointed to this Venerable Order by His Majesty, and especially grateful to my sponsors, Dr. William Henry Benefield and Mrs. Sherri Stephenson. I hope that you can join us for the service of investiture at St. Thomas' Church, Fifth Avenue, on Saturday, October 19.

Sunday School at 9:45am Every Sunday

The formation of children is a critical part of our mission. Service in church helps them learn about responsibility, charity, and self-sacrifice. Children are welcome to participate in our programs and/or attend church services with their parents. Under age 5, there is a a fun childcare program. Children ages 5 to 12 are welcome to attend Sunday School. Those 10 and older are encouraged to participate in the service as acolytes or readers.
